About me

During the summer of 2003 I graduated the college of Special Education from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. A month later I had a job interview with a school principal from Hopkins, South Carolina and came to the United States as a teacher through an international exchange program. Initially I worked at a middle school in a classroom with children with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, orthographically impairments and autism. Most of the goals the instruction focused on in this program were daily living skills such as brushing teeth, washing hands/face, setting up a table for a snack, cleaning up table, washing dishes or preparing a snack. The job was very challenging at first but it brought huge rewards with it when the children starting learning some new skills. A few years later I started a new job in the same district as an autism itinerant teacher. At this moment I am working with more than 30 students with autism teaching social and communication skills as well as helping the classroom teachers with functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
After I became a permanent resident in 2009 I started working on a Masters degree in Special education. Since the bulk of my experience was with children with autism I enrolled in thought that the program of "Multiple and severe disabilities" would serve my interest the best. Right now I am scheduled to graduate in August of 2012 and it is going to be a very exciting moment for me. Throughout the program I managed to learn a lot of new things that I am glad I can bring back with me to the classroom to work with my students. Graduation also means more free time that I can spend with my beautiful 2 year old daughter and my 5 months old boy.
